LIGHTWORKS RETREAT CONFERENCE CENTER

School: Design School at ASU

Program: MArch

Year:2011

Project type: Individual project

The Conference Center is located at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park, to serve the ASU LightWorks Global Institute for functions like conferencing and informal meeting and collaborative spaces.

Closer to nature
Bringing researchers from ASU LightWorks closer to nature is the main goal of this project. This goal was inspired by the type of research done at the LightWorks in fields like bio-fuels, bio-products, and solar energy. Not only that, but also effort to bring these researchers together with industry leaders and government policy makers. All these efforts to protect nature and to create a healthier environment for people to live in, made me think let’s bring them closer to nature let them enjoy the beauty of what they are working hard to protect, encouraging and inspiring them towards more efforts to protect nature,
and creating a natural relaxing atmosphere to encourage collaboration between researchers from different research backgrounds.

Weaving the desert into the building
Inspired by my previous light research using a weaved pattern light screen. I decided to weave
the dessert into the building creating a special moment where researchers connect with nature.
