The Fort Worth Performing Arts Center located at the theater district at Fort Worth, the art center had an existing building to be maintained, remodeled and connected to the rest of the newly developed campus. the location of the theater in a district specialized in arts created an urban challenge in connecting the project to the community. this project focus in connecting the community to the arts through contamination of the program.
Contaminate communicate connect
Creating a link that “contaminates” the programs in the building to bring the arts in into the public’s everyday life, increase interaction and creates several multiple use spaces. Since Fort Worth Community Art Center is located at the edge of the cultural districted of Fort Worth facing the community from the west side (residential area) we created a outdoor link penetrating the project between the galleries and the lobby ……….. and since the FWCAC’s major goal is to create an environment that promotes, nurtures and support the arts in the community and stay affordable to that community, and since the FWCAC is the home of several art organizations we developed two main goals for the project: to establish a stronger relationship between the public and the arts and to increase the revenue of the project to help them give more to the public. We used contamination to achieve these goals,
What we mean by contamination is to bring people into the project for other reasons than the “high culture” of most art centers main target which is the arts and that allows the FWCAC to communicate and connect with all the public which also allows for achieving more revenue which also enables the FWCAC to have more to give back to the public A person (it is our goal that any person) could go in for a cup of coffee and end up buying a ticket to an opera or even registering for a dance or an art class.
